Richard A. Janisch is the founding principal of Arcina Risk Group LLC and has built the company into one of the leading insurance archaeology and claims advocacy firms. A licensed attorney, he has more than three decades of experience in the legal, insurance and risk consulting industry. Prior to founding Arcina in 2009, Richard was a senior vice president with Marsh, a Fortune 500 risk and insurance services firm, for nearly ten years where he built a risk consulting and mass tort practice for the west region. Richard practiced law as senior counsel with Arter & Hadden LLP and previously with Sedgwick Detert Moran & Arnold LLP. A respected practitioner on mass tort and complex claims, Richard has consulted with numerous Fortune 1000 companies across a variety of industries on both their domestic and international claims issues. Under his leadership, Arcina’s insurance archaeology practice has recovered billions of dollars from historic insurance policies for clients. He has built and maintained relationships with brokers, carriers, and law firms in order to deliver outstanding service and results for his clients. An industry thought leader and subject matter expert, Richard is a frequent speaker at various conferences: A resident of Pasadena, California, Richard served on the Pasadena Planning Commission from 1997 - 2009. He is a member of the California Bar and holds a property and casualty license with the State of California. Mark Hatley, Arcina’s insurance archaeology practice leader, has earned the reputation as one of the leading insurance archaeologists in the industry. With more than 25 years of experience, Mark has handled hundreds of investigations for Fortune 1000 and middle market companies as well as public entities. His process knowledge and keen instincts have uncovered billions of dollars in viable insurance assets for clients. Mark is particularly skilled at internal records research which proves successful given the how companies and insurers have merged, consolidated, closed, liquidated or become insolvent. He also has expertise with government and regulatory research, insurer and carrier reviews, broker research and reviews and London market access. Mark interfaces regularly with C-suite leaders, Board members and nationally recognized insurance coverage counsel to address asbestos and environmental claims. He has also worked closely with universities on sports concussion and sexual misconduct claims as well as with religious orders and school districts across the U.S. to locate responsive insurance assets for both defense and indemnity coverages related to Child Victims Act (CVA) claims. Mark is often retained to provide expert testimony on archaeology matters resulting in favorable rulings for the policyholder. Alan Freisleben has over 30 years of experience handling all aspects of dispute resolution including trials, appeals, mediations and arbitrations. He has particular expertise in insurance law, errors and omissions litigation, the defense of holding companies from claims of institutional bad faith, alter ego and joint enterprise liability as well as breach of fiduciary duties. Alan has analyzed and advised clients, both insurers and insureds, as to issues pertaining to applicability of insurance coverage of all types in disputes including mass tort and class actions, general liability, specialty forms and crime coverage. In addition, he has set up and administered a multi-carrier litigation trust fund for the defense of mass tort claims. Alan has drafted policy language as well as coverage opinions, and litigated insurance coverage and bad faith cases in state and federal jury and non-jury trials. He has participated in over 26 appellate decisions on issues ranging from civil procedure to evidentiary privileges to insurance coverage in state and federal courts and regularly serves as an arbitrator and expert witness on a variety of insurance matters. In 2000, Alan started his own law practice and insurance consultancy in Orange County, CA. Previously, he spent 16 years with Sedgewick, Detert Moran & Arnold LLP as a litigation partner and was the founding partner of its Orange County office. Re-appointed to the San Juan Capistrano Utilities Commission in 2016, Alan was elected to serve as Chair for 2017-2018. Prior to returning to the firm in 2016, she was a marketing director with the global law firm Sidley Austin LLP overseeing four California offices. Previously, Daina served as the west region marketing leader managing 11 offices for the accounting firm Grant Thornton. She also was a member of the firm’s national marketing team and lead training and communications for the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics CRM in the U.S. From 2002 – 2008, Daina was a vice president of marketing for the west region of Marsh. Brad Weise, a licensed attorney in both California and Washington, co-founded Arcina in 2009 and brings particular expertise with subrogation and complex claims recovery. He has delivered in upwards of a 99% subrogation recovery for insurers and carriers. His work with Arcina’s insurance archaeology practice has helped recover millions of dollars for clients. Brad has served as an interim manager in the City of Seattle’s workers compensation department. In 1990, Brad was involved in the formation of a multi-million dollar insurance recovery department for one the largest property and casualty insurers. He has worked closely with the country’s largest insurers to assist in the recovery of numerous subrogation claims. Rejo Mathew has ten years of experience having worked at the carrier, broker and client level. Jeff Moerschel is a seasoned veteran of the insurance industry having held senior level positions with carriers and third party administrators (TPAs).
